The Lagos State Government’s inquest into the death of musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has concluded with significant findings. Based on the testimonies of two independent pathologists, the court determined that the possible cause of death was a severe reaction to an injection administered by an unlicensed nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe.
The court ruled that the nurse’s actions constituted a medical misadventure, as she administered the injections without considering the potential risks.
The court therefore acknowledged that cultural factors contributed to the deceased’s father, Joseph Aloba, deciding on a hasty burial, but emphasized the importance of following legal and medical procedures.
The court noted that Mohbad suffered turbulent moments leading to his death, having been failed by various quarters, including his family, public institutions, and the music industry.
The coroner called for the prosecution of the unlicensed nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, for gross medical negligence.
Aprobe into the Nigerian police’s handling of Mohbad’s petition against Naira Marley and others was recommended.
The coroner urged for an urgent and dignified burial for the musician.
The inquest’s findings highlight the need for improved support systems and adherence to medical protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
