The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has partnered with the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Lagos Zonal Office, to sensitise its personnel on pension matters, financial intelligence and effective retirement planning.
The lecture, held on Monday, August 24, 2026, was attended by management staff, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders and other personnel of the Lagos State Command.
The Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, FNARC, stressed the importance of equipping personnel with adequate knowledge of pension management, financial intelligence and sound financial principles to enable them build a secure future during and after their years of service.
Keshinro explained that retirement planning involves saving, investing and building sufficient financial resources to sustain an individual’s lifestyle after active employment.
He advised officers against “eating their future today,” urging them to embrace delayed gratification and make prudent financial decisions that would provide sustainable income after retirement.
The Commandant also directed the Pension Unit of the Command to develop a schedule for continuous pension sensitisation of personnel across all Area Commands in Lagos State.
The National Pension Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, was represented by its Team Lead, Mrs Sarah Joseph, who delivered a detailed presentation on pension administration and retirement planning.
Joseph addressed key aspects of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), describing it as a mandatory pension system regulated by PenCom, under which employers and employees make monthly contributions into employees’ Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs).
She also responded to questions from officers on pension remittances, data capturing, Retirement Savings Accounts, pension transfers, pension reforms, gratuity, Group Life Assurance and annuity for life, among other issues.
The training provided participants with practical knowledge on managing their finances, understanding their pension rights and obligations, and planning effectively for life after retirement.
Representatives of various Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), including Leadway Pensions, Access ARM, Parthian, Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers and Trustfund Pensions, among others, also participated in the programme.
The NSCDC Lagos State Command said the initiative was part of efforts to improve personnel’s financial literacy and prepare them adequately for a secure and dignified retirement.
