The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has quietly achieved a groundbreaking milestone by establishing Africa’s first university-based automobile assembly plant.
In partnership with Nord Automobiles, the facility—launched on November 10, 2022—has been assembling vehicles and drones, training students, and advancing Nigeria’s presence in automotive technology.
The UNILAG–Nord Auto Assembly Plant features a research and development center, assembly line, showroom, and after-sales workshop. It also serves as a practical training hub, offering students real-world experience while contributing to Nigeria’s industrial development.
By prioritizing impact over publicity, UNILAG has positioned itself as a leader in innovation, technical education, and homegrown manufacturing.
