Former presidential aide Umar Sani questions alleged TSA exemption of Minister Nyesom Wike, highlighting concerns about transparency and financial accountability in Nigeria.
Former presidential aide, Umar Sani, has raised concerns over financial accountability within Nigeria’s federal cabinet, particularly questioning the oversight mechanisms surrounding the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during a recent interview on Symfoni TV, Sani alleged that Wike operates outside the Treasury Single Account (TSA) framework, a system designed to promote transparency and accountability in government financial transactions.
According to Sani, “Nyesom Wike is the only minister who does not have TSA, so he is allowed to spend money anyhow,” suggesting that such an arrangement could weaken financial controls and oversight.
He emphasized that the TSA plays a critical role in ensuring proper monitoring of public funds, reducing the risk of mismanagement and promoting fiscal discipline across government institutions. Sani warned that any exemption or deviation from the system could create gaps that may be exploited, thereby undermining public trust.
The former aide further argued that adherence to established financial regulations is essential for maintaining integrity in governance. He noted that perceived or actual exceptions to accountability frameworks could fuel concerns about unequal treatment and misuse of resources within the system.
Sani’s remarks have sparked discussions on the importance of strengthening transparency mechanisms and ensuring that all public officials are subject to the same financial regulations.
