The Herd, Gingerrr Lead AMVCA 12 Nominations
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has officially unveiled the nominees for its highly anticipated 12th edition, with Gingerrr and The Herd leading the pack with nine nominations each.
The announcement was made live on Africa Magic channels on Sunday, March 29, 2026, and was hosted by AMVCA-winning actor Chimezie Imo.
Gingerrr, The Herd, and To Kill A Monkey dominated the major categories, earning nominations across acting, directing, and technical craftsmanship—a reflection of the quality of storytelling that has defined African film and television over the past year. Also making a strong showing was To Kill A Monkey with eight nominations, while My Father’s Shadow secured seven nominations across various categories, setting the stage for fierce competition in the weeks ahead.
The acting categories feature both familiar and emerging faces. Nollywood veteran Sola Sobowale earned nominations in both the lead and supporting categories, alongside Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji. Genoveva Umeh also received her first Best Lead Actress nomination, making her one of the talents to watch ahead of the May 9 ceremony.
Voting for public categories opens at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, via www.africamagic.tv/amvca where the full list of nominees is also available.
With 32 award categories—18 jury-decided, 11 public-voted, and three special recognition awards—the 12th AMVCA promises a fiercely competitive buildup to the main ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026.
