Nigerian food and beverage manufacturer Rite Foods Limited has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of LIDA Malt Classic, a new non-alcoholic malt beverage that underscores the company’s drive to diversify its offerings, strengthen local manufacturing and respond to changing consumer preferences.
Unveiled to media representatives and content creators during a product immersion programme at the company’s manufacturing facility in Ososa, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on October 15, 2026, LIDA Malt enters the market under the brand proposition, “LIDA Malt. Made for You.”
The launch marks another step in Rite Foods’ efforts to expand its presence across Nigeria’s competitive food and beverage industry, where consumer preferences, product differentiation and brand engagement continue to influence market growth.
Beyond introducing another beverage, the initiative offered participants an opportunity to examine the manufacturing operations behind the company’s growing portfolio and understand how product development, production technology and sustainability feature in its business strategy.
LIDA Malt Targets Changing Consumer Preferences
Speaking during the programme, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods Limited, said the introduction of LIDA Malt reflected the company’s commitment to innovation, quality and the development of products that respond to consumer expectations.
He explained that innovation remained central to the company’s expansion strategy, with its existing brands demonstrating efforts to serve different segments of the Nigerian market.
Rite Foods’ portfolio includes Bigi Carbonated Soft Drinks, available in 13 variants; Bigi Premium Drinking Water; Sosa Fruit Drink, with five variants; and Fearless Energy Drink.
According to Eze, the introduction of LIDA Malt provides an opportunity to extend the company’s presence into another beverage category while maintaining its focus on locally manufactured products.
He said the company’s approach to product development involved understanding the market, identifying consumer needs and creating offerings that fit into everyday lifestyles.
The new malt beverage is currently available in its Classic variant and packaged in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.
For Rite Foods, the challenge will be to establish a distinct identity for the new brand in a market where consumer loyalty, product quality, distribution and effective marketing play important roles in determining success.
Consumer Engagement Drives Brand Strategy
The company is also leveraging entertainment, youth culture and experiential marketing to connect its brands with consumers.
Platforms such as Bigi’s Soundcity OnTour campus activation and Fearless Energy Drink’s participation in Felabration provide opportunities to engage audiences beyond conventional advertising.
These activities reflect the growing importance of direct consumer engagement in a competitive market where brands seek to build recognition, encourage product trials and maintain relationships with their target audiences.
Toyin Nnodi, Head of Marketing at Rite Foods Limited, said LIDA Malt was developed with consumers’ preferences, routines and everyday experiences in mind.
According to her, the “Made for You” proposition reflects the company’s intention to position consumers at the centre of its product development and brand communication.
Nnodi explained that the new beverage was designed to provide another quality option for consumers across different occasions, including meals, social gatherings and moments of refreshment.
She added that understanding consumer expectations would remain important as the company develops the brand and seeks to establish its relevance in the market.
The reception of LIDA Malt will ultimately depend on how effectively the company translates its consumer-focused proposition into product satisfaction, availability and sustained market acceptance.
Manufacturing Capacity Supports Expansion
The factory immersion programme also highlighted the role of manufacturing infrastructure in supporting Rite Foods’ expanding food and beverage operations.
The company’s portfolio extends beyond beverages to include Rite Spicy Beef, Bigi Beef and Bigi Flex Sausages, reflecting its presence across multiple product categories.
Automated manufacturing infrastructure supports production across its portfolio, providing a foundation for product diversification and efforts to maintain operational consistency.
Local manufacturing remains particularly significant in Nigeria, where producers must navigate production costs, energy supply challenges, distribution requirements and changing consumer purchasing power.
For companies seeking to expand their market share, the ability to combine production capacity with product quality, cost management and efficient distribution can be critical to long-term competitiveness.
Rite Foods’ introduction of LIDA Malt therefore represents both a product expansion and an opportunity to demonstrate how its existing manufacturing capabilities can support entry into additional beverage categories.
Cleaner Energy Features in Sustainability Plans
Another issue highlighted during the factory tour was the company’s approach to energy management and environmental responsibility.
Eze said Rite Foods was pursuing more efficient and resilient energy solutions to support productivity, operational continuity and its sustainability objectives.
According to him, approximately 95 per cent of the company’s energy consumption comes from natural gas and solar power, while diesel accounts for the remaining five per cent.
The company considers energy management an important component of its long-term strategy, particularly in an industrial environment where reliable power supply is essential to maintaining production.
Its sustainability initiatives also include Waste-Is-Naira, implemented in partnership with RecyclePoints, which encourages plastic-waste recovery by linking recycling activities with economic value.
Such initiatives reflect growing attention to resource efficiency and waste management within manufacturing, although their long-term impact depends on effective implementation, participation and measurable environmental outcomes.
For the wider Nigerian manufacturing sector, investments in efficient energy systems and responsible waste management can contribute to operational resilience while addressing environmental concerns.
Building a Competitive Nigerian Brand
The introduction of LIDA Malt comes as Rite Foods continues to expand its presence in the country’s food and beverage market through product diversification, brand development and manufacturing investment.
Its growing portfolio illustrates the opportunities available to indigenous manufacturers willing to explore new categories and respond to changing consumer expectations.
However, launching a new product is only the first step in building a sustainable market presence. Consistent quality, competitive pricing, widespread distribution, effective promotion and consumer confidence will be important in determining LIDA Malt’s long-term performance.
The company’s ability to translate its manufacturing capacity and consumer-focused strategy into sustained demand will therefore be central to the new brand’s prospects.
For Nigerian consumers, the entry of another locally manufactured malt beverage offers an additional choice in an increasingly competitive market.
For Rite Foods, LIDA Malt Classic represents another test of its innovation strategy and its capacity to turn product development into lasting brand value.
As the company expands its portfolio, its performance will be measured not only by the number of products it introduces but also by its ability to deliver quality, maintain consumer trust and remain competitive in Nigeria’s evolving food and beverage industry.
