Sunbeth Energies Limited has launched Nigeria’s first self-service fuel station at its Ogba outlet in Lagos, introducing a digital fueling solution that allows motorists to independently purchase fuel through a secure and user-friendly platform.
The company said the innovation marks a significant milestone in the modernization of Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector by enhancing transparency, operational efficiency and customer convenience.
Unlike the conventional attendant-operated fueling process, the self-service platform enables customers to initiate, monitor and complete fuel purchases themselves. Users can track the number of litres dispensed in real time and confirm payments directly through an interactive interface, giving them greater confidence in the accuracy of every transaction.
The technology was developed in partnership with Tech Brokers Limited, a Nigerian technology company specializing in digital transformation and enterprise technology solutions. The platform integrates intelligent forecourt automation with secure payment systems, allowing compatibility with multiple payment channels and existing forecourt technologies.
Speaking at the launch, Managing Director of Sunbeth Energies Limited, Lateef Abioye, described the initiative as a landmark achievement for both the company and Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry.
“Today is a defining moment not only for Sunbeth Energies but also for Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry. By launching Nigeria’s first self-service fuel station, we are introducing a new standard of transparency, convenience and customer empowerment. Every customer deserves to know exactly what they are paying for, and this innovation gives them that confidence,” he said.
Abioye added that the project demonstrates Nigeria’s growing capacity to develop world-class technology solutions locally.
“What makes this achievement even more significant is that it is a Nigerian innovation. Working with Tech Brokers Limited, we have demonstrated that world-class technology can be conceived, designed and deployed locally to solve real industry challenges. We are proud to be leading a transformation that will redefine how Nigerians purchase fuel.”
He disclosed that the Ogba outlet is the first phase of a broader digital transformation strategy that will be expanded across Sunbeth Energies’ retail network nationwide.
“This is only the first step. We are committed to building intelligent, connected forecourts that combine digital payments, automation, data-driven insights and superior customer experience. Our ambition is to set a new industry standard for how energy products are delivered in Nigeria,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Tech Brokers Limited, Wasiu Popoola, described the launch as the beginning of a new era for fuel retailing in Nigeria.
According to him, the indigenous technology platform was designed to support the future of the downstream oil and gas industry while remaining flexible enough to accommodate future innovations.
“We commend the management of Sunbeth Energies for their foresight, courage and technological maturity in partnering with us to bring this groundbreaking solution to life.
Together, we have shown that world-class technology can be conceived, designed and delivered by Nigerian companies to solve Nigerian challenges,” Popoola said.
Customers who have used the system praised its simplicity and transparency.
One of the first users described the experience as reassuring and seamless.
“I have never experienced anything like this at a fuel station in Nigeria. Being able to control the entire process myself and watch every litre being dispensed gave me complete confidence. It was easy to use, fast and transparent,” the customer said.
Sunbeth Energies said trained customer experience personnel will remain available at the Ogba station to assist customers and ensure a smooth transition as more motorists embrace the self-service fueling system.
