The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, has reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to the safety of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and the promotion of youth development in the state.
The assurance was given when the Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Adewuyi Omolabake Frances, led members of her executive management team on a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the long-standing partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the NYSC, enhancing collaboration on corps members’ security, and promoting community-based policing initiatives across Ogun State.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Adewuyi expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police for the warm reception and commended the cordial relationship between the NYSC and the Ogun State Police Command.
She praised the Command for its commitment to the welfare, mentorship, and protection of corps members serving in police formations and across the state, noting that the proactive security measures put in place have continued to ensure their safety in all local government areas.
The NYSC State Coordinator also pledged the Scheme’s continued support in intelligence sharing and collaboration with the Police, urging the Command to sustain its efforts in maintaining peace and security throughout Ogun State.
Responding, CP Ojajuni reiterated that the constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property remains the Command’s highest priority. He assured the delegation that the Ogun State Police Command would continue to provide adequate security for all residents, including corps members posted to the state.
Addressing the corps members present, the Commissioner reflected on his own NYSC experience, describing it as a defining period that shaped his personal and professional life. He encouraged them to maximise the opportunities offered by the national service programme by building character, discipline, resilience, and leadership qualities.
He also warned them against involvement in cultism, criminal activities, and other unlawful associations, stressing that the NYSC uniform does not provide immunity from prosecution if anyone is found to have violated the law.
CP Ojajuni further introduced the delegation to the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), describing it as a strategic community-based initiative aimed at preventing youth involvement in cultism, substance abuse, and other social vices through advocacy and value reorientation.
He disclosed that the Command is preparing for a statewide POCACOV campaign to expand awareness across schools and communities in Ogun State.
The Commissioner also urged the NYSC management to sustain effective supervision and discipline among corps members, emphasizing that adherence to established rules remains essential in nurturing responsible and law-abiding citizens.
He recalled the Command’s recent successful rescue of 18 stranded corps members whose vehicle broke down along the Ogbere–Ijebu Ode road at night. According to him, officers swiftly responded to the distress situation and safely evacuated the corps members to Ijebu Ode.
CP Ojajuni reaffirmed that the Ogun State Police Command remains fully committed to protecting every resident of the state and strengthening partnerships that promote public safety, youth development, and peaceful coexistence.
