Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
The development was made public by lawyer and fellow activist, Deji Adeyanju, in a post shared on his social media pages on Thursday.
According to Adeyanju, Sowore was arrested at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he had gone to observe the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who is facing terrorism-related charges.
Adeyanju wrote: “BREAKING: Omoyele Sowore just arrested at the Federal High Court by the Nigerian police. When will the Nigerian police stop acting jobless?”
Sowore was reportedly in court to show solidarity with Kanu. Prior to the court appearance, he had led a protest in Abuja demanding Kanu’s release. The protest, held on a Monday, involved demonstrators marching to the *National Assembly and the Presidential Villa calling for the IPOB leader’s unconditional freedom.
