A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has restrained the Chief Judge of the state from receiving or acting on any impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The order followed a request by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who had asked the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy after a unanimous resolution.
The lawmakers had vowed to proceed with the impeachment process, but the court ruling has effectively put the move on hold pending further legal proceedings.
