The House of Representatives has announced plans to summon Rep. Ibrahim Usman Auyo (APC, Jigawa) to defend his viral claim that lawmakers receive payments to sponsor motions, bills, and petitions. House spokesperson Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr. stated this in a press release, describing the allegations as “unsubstantiated” and warning that they could undermine public confidence in the National Assembly if left unclarified.
Rep. Auyo will be invited to substantiate his claims before the House when it reconvenes. Failure to provide evidence will lead to referral to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
The House emphasizes that sponsoring motions or bills is not a “contract job” involving bribes but follows well-established and transparent procedures.
In just two years, the House has introduced 2,263 bills, passed 237, and moved over 1,100 motions, focusing on key sectors like education, health, infrastructure, security, and economic development.
The House remains committed to transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to the people, as outlined in the Legislative Agenda 2023-2027.
