The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the bye-elections for the Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the Ghari constituency rerun election in Kano State. According to the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the voting process in these constituencies was marred by “widespread extreme violence and election disruption by armed thugs across several polling units.”
Reports from Shanono and Bagwai Local Government Areas and Ghari constituency indicate voters fleeing polling areas due to violence, with security personnel overwhelmed.
Proceeding with the elections in such an atmosphere would be against democratic principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections, setting a dangerous precedent for electoral malpractices.
The party urges INEC to prioritize the safety and security of voters and cancel the elections to prevent further chaos and ensure a credible electoral process.
