Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a truck hijacking operation in Ijebu Imushin area of the state, recovering a stolen DAF truck and a wooden-fabricated rifle allegedly used by the suspects during the attack.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, after a distress call was received from a truck driver transporting motor spare parts.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was intercepted by suspected hoodlums at the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Government Area, where the truck was forcefully taken from him.
The police said detectives from the Ijebu Imushin Division, working alongside highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilised to the scene following the report.
The rapid response reportedly forced the suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee the area under pressure from the operatives.
Authorities noted that the timely intervention prevented the loss of property and successfully disrupted the criminal operation.
The driver, who sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was immediately given first aid treatment.
A search conducted on the recovered truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, which police said was used by the suspects during the hijacking attempt.
The Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects for prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response.
He also reassured residents and road users of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
