The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has urged students of the University of Lagos to remain committed to academic excellence and avoid social vices capable of destroying their future.
Ojajuni gave the advice while receiving a delegation from the Department of Geosciences, University of Lagos, during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The delegation, made up of lecturers and students from the Geology and Geophysics units, was led by Akinmosin Adewale as part of a geological fieldwork excursion within Ogun State.
The visit, according to the police, was aimed at promoting academic engagement and strengthening collaboration between security institutions and the academic community on youth development and public safety awareness.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Adewale commended the leadership of the Commissioner of Police for sustaining internal security and promoting community policing initiatives across the state. He also appreciated the warm reception given to the delegation, stressing that exposure to security institutions helps in building civic responsibility among students.
In his remarks, CP Ojajuni praised the students for their dedication to education and encouraged them to remain disciplined, focused, and future-oriented.
He noted that education remains a critical tool for personal advancement and national development, while warning students against involvement in cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, and other criminal activities.
According to him, such social vices could destroy their future and threaten societal stability, adding that discipline, integrity, and hard work are essential ingredients for lasting success.
Members of the Command’s management team also interacted with the students during the visit. Among them were Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Ibrahim Abdul; Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Gbenga Adeoye; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration, Akinmoladun Olu Moore.
The senior officers emphasized the importance of lawful conduct, patriotism, and responsible citizenship, while encouraging the students to become ambassadors of peace and partners in promoting community safety within their institutions.
The engagement also provided the students with insights into police operations and highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between academic institutions and security agencies in fostering a safer society.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Adeniyi Oluwatobi expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and the management team for the mentorship, reception, and impactful interaction.
