The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has disrupted the activities of suspected kidnappers operating in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, close to the Enugu–Benue boundary.
The operation was conducted as part of a close air support mission in support of ground troops battling criminal elements in the area.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the operation successfully disrupted the activities of the suspected kidnappers and supported the advance of surface forces.
The NAF, however, disclosed that following the successful mission, the pilot exercised professional discretion to make a precautionary landing about 10 nautical miles from the airfield while returning to base.
The Air Force stressed that the landing was carried out in line with established operational and safety procedures following combat missions.
It added that the helicopter landed safely and subsequently returned to base.
The latest operation comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to curb kidnapping and other criminal activities in Benue State and neighbouring areas.
The NAF said it would continue to work closely with surface forces to sustain pressure on criminal elements, provide close air support and protect vulnerable communities through coordinated air and ground operations.
The statement said the operation further demonstrated the NAF’s resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and support efforts to restore security in affected communities.
