The growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing is placing greater emphasis on advanced cooling technologies, with liquid cooling increasingly used to manage heat in powerful computing systems.
The same principle is now being applied to smartphones, as manufacturers seek to maintain stable performance during demanding tasks such as gaming, video processing and AI applications.
Infinix’s GT 50 Pro gaming smartphone adopts a liquid-cooling architecture designed to help control heat and sustain performance during extended gaming sessions.
Tackling smartphone thermal throttling
High-performance smartphones can generate significant heat during intensive gaming. As temperatures rise, devices may automatically reduce processor performance to protect internal components, a process commonly known as thermal throttling.
The result can include frame-rate drops, inconsistent performance and reduced responsiveness during prolonged gaming sessions.
The GT 50 Pro addresses this challenge with Infinix’s HydroFlow Liquid Cooling System. According to the company, the system uses a micro-pump liquid-cooling design that covers the device’s core heat source and is designed to remove heat more efficiently during heavy workloads.
The technology is intended to help the smartphone maintain more consistent performance rather than allowing heat buildup to significantly reduce processing speeds.
GT Magcharge Cooler 2.0 adds external cooling
The GT 50 Pro can also be paired with the GT Magcharge Cooler 2.0, an external cooling and charging accessory designed for extended gaming sessions.
According to Infinix, the accessory works with wireless bypass charging to direct power to the phone while reducing reliance on continuous battery cycling during gameplay.
The cooling fan is designed to work alongside the phone’s liquid-cooling system, providing an additional method of transferring heat away from the device.
Built for competitive gaming
Beyond thermal management, the GT 50 Pro combines gaming-focused hardware and software features.
The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultimate chipset and supports up to 144 frames per second (FPS) gameplay on selected titles, including Call of Duty: Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Blood Strike.
The device also features Infinix’s N1 Network Chip, which the company says is designed to improve network stability in challenging signal environments.
For gaming controls, the GT 50 Pro includes Open-Cut Pressure-Sense GT Triggers. The shoulder controls offer adjustable sensitivity, giving gamers additional control options beyond the conventional touchscreen.
AI-powered gaming features
The smartphone runs on XOS 16, which includes a range of AI-assisted gaming functions.
One of the features, Smart Trigger, can recognise selected in-game images and perform preset actions. AI voice prompts are also designed to provide players with vocal cues during gameplay.
An esports mode is available to create a more focused gaming environment by limiting notifications and allocating system resources toward gaming-related activities.
Gaming-focused design
The GT 50 Pro combines its cooling technology with a gaming-inspired design featuring a Kevlar-inspired texture and hypercar aesthetic.
The smartphone is available in Black Abyss, Red Blaze and Silver Glacier colour options. Its mechanical light-wave lighting system supports multiple styles and colours for customisation.
A transparent section on the rear panel also provides a view of part of the phone’s internal liquid-cooling architecture.
Expanding the GT ecosystem
The GT 50 Pro forms part of Infinix’s wider GT gaming ecosystem, which includes accessories such as the GT Magcharge Cooler 2.0, GTWATCH 5 Pro, GTBUDS 5 and GTPOWER POD 10K.
Infinix says the GT series has evolved from its earlier cyberpunk-inspired gaming smartphones into a broader ecosystem combining gaming hardware, accessories and software features.
The company is also working through its GT Gaming Co-Lab with game publishers to optimise gaming experiences and develop features aimed at mobile gamers.
Cooling becomes increasingly important
As smartphone processors become more powerful, managing heat remains an important factor in maintaining sustained performance.
While liquid cooling has traditionally been associated with high-performance computing and data centres, smartphone manufacturers are increasingly exploring similar principles for consumer devices.
The GT 50 Pro’s cooling system reflects this broader shift, placing thermal management alongside processing power, connectivity and gaming software as key considerations for high-performance smartphones.
