Fidelity Bank Plc has donated more than 2,000 food packs to vulnerable residents in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its efforts to tackle hunger and promote food security across Nigeria.
The donation was made through the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, with the distribution exercise held at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta.
The initiative is part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and improving access to essential food supplies.
Speaking at the event, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, disclosed that the bank had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative was launched in 2023.
Jemirin said the initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) on Zero Hunger, while reinforcing the bank’s commitment to creating positive social impact in its host communities.
“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development.
“Through our Food Bank Initiative, we are not only providing relief to vulnerable families but also supporting the global goal of ending hunger and ensuring food security for all,” he said.
He noted that Fidelity Bank’s interventions in Abeokuta extend beyond food assistance to areas including education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community-focused programmes.
Jemirin said the initiative was designed not merely to distribute food but also to provide hope and strengthen families and communities.
“This initiative is about more than distributing food items. It is about restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families, and providing meaningful support that contributes to their wellbeing,” he added.
He expressed appreciation to the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta and other partners for their collaboration in making the outreach possible.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for its continued investment in community development and support for vulnerable Nigerians.
Olagbaju said the donation demonstrated the bank’s commitment to extending assistance to communities and working with institutions such as the Church to deliver meaningful social interventions.
The Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, launched in 2023, has become one of the bank’s major social impact programmes, providing food assistance to vulnerable households across Nigeria.
Through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders, the initiative seeks to alleviate hunger, promote social welfare and support inclusive development.
