Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s thanksgiving after his election victory offers a timely reminder that leaders should remain humble, grateful to God and committed to serving humanity, regardless of their position.
There is a lesson every public office holder, successful individual and ordinary citizen can learn from Governor Adeleke’s recent thanksgiving visit to Christ Power Evangelical Crusade International (CPEC) in Osogbo: never become too important to appreciate God.
Following his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, Governor Adeleke returned to the church to give thanks to God. His actions, including raising his hands in worship and lying on the floor in appreciation, offered a powerful reminder that whatever position a person occupies, gratitude should remain an important part of life.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes and secured him a second term as governor of Osun State.
He won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.
But beyond the figures, political calculations and celebrations surrounding the election, Adeleke’s thanksgiving carries a message that transcends politics.
Success should produce gratitude, not arrogance.
In a society where people sometimes forget the source of their blessings once they attain positions of influence, public displays of thanksgiving can serve as a reminder that power, wealth, opportunities and even life itself are not entirely within human control.
Whether one is a governor, senator, businessman, civil servant, professional, religious leader or ordinary citizen, there will always be reasons to appreciate God.
A political victory is temporary. Public office is temporary. Wealth and influence can change. But the attitude of gratitude should remain.
Governor Adeleke’s visit to CPEC also demonstrates the importance of acknowledging the role of faith in one’s journey. Having won a second term, he now has an even greater responsibility to serve the people of Osun State with humility, fairness and accountability.
Thanksgiving should therefore not end inside the church.
If Adeleke truly appreciates God for giving him another opportunity to lead Osun State, that gratitude should be reflected in his administration. It should be seen in good governance, responsible use of public resources, respect for the people and policies that improve the lives of citizens.
The same principle applies to everyone.
When we rise, we should remember where we started. When we succeed, we should remember those who helped us.
And when we occupy positions of authority, we should remember that such positions are privileges to serve, not opportunities to oppress others.
The Daily Torch Media believes that no position is too high for gratitude and no achievement is too great to acknowledge God.
Adeleke’s thanksgiving should therefore be seen not merely as a celebration of an election victory, but as a reminder to all Nigerians that humility and gratitude should accompany success.
Whatever our position in life, we should never be too big to say: Thank You, God.
