Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has won re-election for a second term after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday after results from all 30 local government areas were collated.
Adeleke won in 19 LGAs, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The Returning Officer said 1,010,684 voters were accredited, with 1,005,800 votes cast. Of these, 985,079 were valid, while 20,721 votes were rejected.
Ogunwole subsequently declared Adeleke duly elected after the results were signed by agents of the participating political parties.
The victory means Adeleke will remain in office for another four years following the closely contested election.
