The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that an explosion suspected to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) occurred at a commercial area in Mushin, leaving one person injured.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the scene of the incident, which took place at the Shoe Materials Market in the area.
He said police operatives, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts, were immediately deployed after reports of the blast were received. The area was quickly cordoned off and thoroughly searched to prevent further risk.
Preliminary findings indicated that the device was allegedly placed beneath the passenger side of a vehicle and detonated when the car was started.
According to the police, one person sustained injuries in the explosion and has been taken to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities confirmed that no additional explosive devices were discovered after a full sweep of the market and surrounding environment.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents and traders to remain calm, assuring that the situation had been brought under control and that investigations were ongoing to determine those responsible.
