The much-anticipated 2024/2025 edition of the Olota Cup officially kicked off on Monday, November 24, 2025, with a vibrant opening ceremony that reaffirmed the Awori Kingdom’s strong commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development.
His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D., the Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Otta land, Awori Kingdom, declared the tournament open at the Bells University Stadium, Ota, Ogun State. The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, traditional rulers, academic leaders, and sports enthusiasts from across the region.
In his welcome address, His Majesty applauded the efforts of the organising committee, led by Mr. Olaniyi Akinbode, CEO and Publisher of Travellers Network Magazine, for their dedication and success in consistently delivering both the Olota Cup and the Olota Marathon.
Kabiyesi urged participating schools to see the tournament not just as a competition, but as a platform to build unity, showcase talent, and pursue future careers in football. He emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and excellence as guiding principles for the youth.
