Wema Bank has been named Nigeria’s Best Digital Bank for Consumers 2026 by Euromoney, one of the world’s leading authorities on financial services and banking excellence.
The prestigious recognition highlights the bank’s sustained leadership in digital innovation, customer experience and financial inclusion, further strengthening its reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost technology-driven financial institutions.
The annual Euromoney Awards for Excellence honour financial institutions that are transforming banking through innovation, measurable impact and exceptional customer value. According to the organisers, Wema Bank earned the award for its successful digital transformation, continuous innovation through ALAT, Africa’s first fully digital bank, and its commitment to providing simpler, smarter and more accessible banking solutions.
Reacting to the recognition, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, described the award as a validation of the bank’s long-term investments in digital banking and customer-focused innovation.
“This award is a strong validation of the deliberate investments we have made over the years to build a truly digital bank that puts customers at the centre of everything we do. Innovation for us has never been about technology for its own sake. It has always been about creating solutions that make banking easier, faster, safer and more rewarding for every customer,” he said.
Oseni added that the bank remains committed to anticipating customer needs and delivering innovative solutions that create lasting value.
“From pioneering Africa’s first fully digital bank with ALAT to continuously evolving our digital capabilities, we have remained focused on building experiences that create real value. We are honoured by this recognition from Euromoney and inspired to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation as we shape the future of banking in Nigeria,” he stated.
A major milestone in Wema Bank’s digital transformation has been the continuous enhancement of ALAT, which now offers next-generation features such as voice banking, tap-to-pay functionality, personalised financial services and integrated investment opportunities through strategic partnerships.
The bank has also strengthened its digital offerings with faster customer onboarding, artificial intelligence-powered fraud monitoring, intelligent customer personalisation and an expanding agency banking network, enabling it to extend financial services to more Nigerians.
Euromoney also acknowledged Wema Bank’s use of data-driven personalisation to deepen customer relationships by providing tailored recommendations across savings, investment and credit products based on customers’ financial needs and behaviour.
For more than 80 years, Wema Bank has remained a key player in Nigeria’s banking industry, leveraging technology and innovation to deliver secure, seamless and inclusive financial services to individuals, businesses and communities.
The Euromoney award further reinforces the bank’s commitment to driving the future of banking through continuous innovation, operational excellence and customer-centric solutions.
