The Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has strengthened its security strategy through engagements with four security agencies to improve campus safety, intelligence sharing and emergency response.
The university delegation, led by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Oladipo, visited the Ogun State Police Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps and SO-SAFE Corps to discuss security challenges and develop practical solutions.
During the visit to the Ogun State Police Command in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Professor Oladipo commended Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni for responding promptly to security incidents. He advocated an additional police post in a host community and improved road infrastructure to facilitate security operations.
Ojajuni identified inadequate perimeter fencing, poor roads and students living across surrounding communities as challenges. He assured the university of continued police support and improved security deployment.
At the NSCDC headquarters in Abeokuta, State Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo emphasised intelligence sharing, timely reporting and preventive measures against theft, cultism, drug abuse, vandalism and kidnapping.
Professor Oladipo highlighted the university’s plans to strengthen perimeter fencing, install security equipment, improve lighting and provide motorcycles to support security operations.
The engagement with Amotekun Commandant, retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, focused on protecting educational institutions and strengthening surveillance. The university also sought assistance with patrols and security personnel training.
At SO-SAFE Corps headquarters, State Commander Sola Ganzallo stressed community participation, intelligence gathering and cooperation among traditional rulers, community leaders and security agencies.
The university also promoted professional development through its Centre for Human Rights and Gender Education (CHURGE), offering security-related programmes in collaboration with the Institute of Security, Nigeria.
Professor Oladipo said the initiatives would strengthen security management, intelligence gathering and criminal investigation.
The engagements reaffirmed TASFUED’s commitment to protecting lives and property while promoting peaceful coexistence and providing a safe environment for teaching, learning and research.
