A United States lawmaker, Chris Moore, has said a proposed bill before the US Congress contains strong and binding provisions that could significantly shape future relations between the United States and Nigeria.
Speaking on the proposed legislation, Moore said the bill includes “pretty strong and aggressive language” that would guide how the US engages with Nigeria going forward.
“And so there’s some pretty strong and aggressive language in that bill that’s going to be binding as it relates to our relationship with Nigeria moving forward. And yes, I continue to work with the administration on the next steps that we’re going to take,” he said.
Moore also disclosed that the issue remains a priority for US President Donald Trump, adding that he has continued to engage the administration on the matter as discussions on the bill progress.
The latest development comes months after Moore introduced the Nigeria-related bill, which seeks to address concerns over religious freedom and could influence future diplomatic engagement between both countries if passed.
