United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has graduated and inducted 374 young professionals into its workforce following the completion of Cohort 21 of its Graduate Management Accelerator Programme (GMAP).
The graduation ceremony, held in Lagos, brought together participants from Nigeria and other African countries where UBA operates.
The latest cohort comprises 223 women and 151 men, with 345 graduates from Nigeria and 29 from UBA subsidiaries in Guinea, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire.
The GMAP, UBA’s flagship talent development programme, is designed to equip young professionals with technical banking knowledge, practical experience, mentorship and leadership skills.
Since its inception, the programme has produced more than 5,000 young professionals, helping to prepare a new generation of bankers for leadership roles across Africa.
UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, urged the new graduates to make customer service a key priority, noting that service would remain a major differentiator as technology continues to make banking products increasingly similar.
He also encouraged the graduates to maintain passion, discipline, hard work and excellence throughout their careers.
UBA Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, described the graduation as a commissioning rather than the end of the programme.
He urged the graduates to embrace every assignment as an opportunity to demonstrate excellence, regardless of their first posting or role.
The GMAP provides training in areas including product design, trade finance and customer experience, while forming part of UBA’s wider commitment to developing talent and strengthening Africa’s financial sector.
UBA currently serves more than 45 million customers globally and operates across 20 African countries, as well as the United Kingdom, United States, France and the United Arab Emirates.
