The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed its swift intervention in two serious road accidents that occurred over the weekend—at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, and around the Stadium Hotel axis of Ojuelegba, Surulere.
At Olohunsogo, a Toyota Camry with registration number FST 450 HG was involved in a violent collision with a stationary Scania truck marked LSR 243 YC.
LASTMA officials, acting promptly and efficiently, rescued the Camry driver and a passenger, both of whom sustained severe injuries. The victims were immediately taken to Ademola Hospital, opposite Ijanikin Police Station, for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by the Camry driver’s reckless speeding, which led to a total loss of control.
The driver of the parked Scania truck was apprehended on the spot by LASTMA operatives, while officers from the Ijanikin Police Division provided additional security support.
To prevent traffic gridlock, LASTMA quickly cleared the wreckage from the road and restored smooth vehicular flow along the affected route.
In a related incident near Stadium Hotel in Ojuelegba, Surulere, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to a serious road crash involving a white commercial Mazda bus with registration number KRD 141 YH. The vehicle, reportedly moving at an unsafe speed, veered off and slammed into the BRT lane median.
The driver, found unconscious at the scene, along with two passengers, was immediately rescued and rushed by LASTMA officers to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Thankfully, all three victims survived the crash.
One of the passengers, Mrs. Aina Kadri, revealed that the crash was caused by sudden brake failure while the bus was in motion at high speed.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised the swift response, professionalism, and coordinated efforts of LASTMA officials and the Nigeria Police in handling both weekend accidents.
He reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to rapid emergency response, traffic decongestion, and public safety throughout the state.
Bakare-Oki also issued a stern advisory to motorists, urging strict adherence to speed regulations and routine vehicle maintenance. He stressed that overspeeding and mechanical negligence are preventable causes of tragic road incidents.
