Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing one insurgent believed to be the group’s cameraman.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Capt. Muhammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the terrorists attempted to infiltrate a military position under the cover of darkness but were repelled by troops.
According to the military, the attackers intended to overrun the troops’ location and steal cholera medical supplies.
However, soldiers detected their movement early, engaged them with superior firepower, and forced them to retreat after suffering casualties.
Troops later recovered a Sony camcorder from the slain insurgent. Preliminary analysis of the device reportedly revealed operational footage, propaganda materials, and intelligence identifying four senior ISWAP commanders allegedly involved in coordinating the failed attack.
