President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally inaugurated the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge in Lagos, marking a major boost to the state’s transport infrastructure aimed at improving mobility and reducing chronic traffic congestion.
The commissioning, held on Wednesday, was performed on behalf of the President by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who described the project as a strategic intervention to address traffic bottlenecks across some of Lagos’ busiest commercial corridors.
The bridge, developed under the administration of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aligns with the state’s THEMES+ development agenda. Officials noted that the multi-billion-naira project underscores the government’s commitment to modernising urban infrastructure and enhancing connectivity.
Constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the project was completed in less than two years, reflecting the state’s accelerated approach to delivering critical infrastructure.
The Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge is expected to provide alternative routes for motorists traveling through heavily congested areas such as Opebi, Allen Avenue, and Maryland, while offering a direct connection to Ojota and other parts of Ikeja.
Authorities say the new infrastructure will significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic pressure on existing roads, and improve overall traffic flow within the Lagos metropolis.
Speaking at the event, government officials highlighted the economic importance of the project, noting that improved road connectivity would enhance business activities by facilitating the smoother movement of people and goods across key commercial hubs.
The bridge is part of a broader infrastructure drive by the Lagos State Government, which includes landmark projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the expansion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system.
Officials maintain that sustained investment in transport infrastructure remains vital to positioning Lagos as a competitive, efficient, and resilient megacity.
