President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm birthday wishes to renowned economist, banker, and philanthropist Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu as he marks his birthday on March 22.
In a State House press statement, the President celebrated Elumelu’s remarkable contributions to business and entrepreneurship across Africa. He described him as an African business icon and a strong advocate for Nigerian and continental enterprise.
Elumelu serves as chairman of Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa, and Transcorp. He is also the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, a leading platform empowering entrepreneurs across the continent.
President Tinubu commended Elumelu for his resilience, commitment to excellence, and unwavering belief in Africapitalism — a philosophy that promotes long-term investments that create both economic prosperity and social wealth.
The President particularly praised the impact of the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme, which has trained about 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and provided over 24,000 entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed funding of $5,000 each.
As Elumelu marks the special occasion, President Tinubu joined his family, friends, and associates in wishing him good health, renewed strength, and continued success in his endeavours.
The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on March 22, 2026.
