Surgeons in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, successfully removed 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and 2 sharp pens from a 40‑year‑old man’s stomach during an emergency surgery on September 17, 2025.
What Led to the Surgery
The man, from Bulandshahr, had been admitted to a de‑addiction centre in Ghaziabad about a month prior.
He began experiencing severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and general discomfort, prompting scans and diagnostics that revealed multiple foreign objects in his stomach.
The Surgical Procedure & Findings
The surgical team, led by Dr. Shyam Kumar, conducted a delicate operation to safely extract all the items without harming internal organs.
During the operation, they discovered that some spoons and toothbrush heads had been broken before being swallowed.
The sheer number and sharp edges of the objects made the procedure exceptionally risky.

Post-surgery, the patient reportedly claimed that his ingestion of these objects was driven by anger and frustration while he was in the de‑addiction centre.
