Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, is set to host Soundcity OnTour as the nationwide music and talent discovery platform arrives on campus from August 18 to 20, offering students live entertainment and an opportunity to compete for a ₦1 million prize.
Sponsored by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, the Zaria activation is the 15th stop on the 20-campus tour, which is visiting universities across Nigeria between June and October.
Beyond the concert experience, the tour provides a platform for emerging student artistes to showcase their talents and compete for national recognition through BIGI Music, the talent discovery initiative incorporated into Soundcity OnTour.
The three-day activation will begin with campus activities and entertainment on Day One, while Day Two will feature live BIGI Music auditions for student artistes.
Five of the participating artistes will be selected to perform on the main concert stage, with one winner emerging with the ₦1 million campus prize.
The competition will continue beyond the campus level, as winners from participating universities will proceed to regional battles, where judging and social engagement will determine the artistes who advance to the national stage.
Two eventual national winners will receive full studio production, A&R mentorship led by Bankulli, guaranteed Soundcity Radio rotation and professionally produced music videos.
The initiative, therefore, goes beyond a conventional campus music competition by creating a pathway through which promising young artistes can progress from performing before their university peers to competing for national exposure.
The entertainment programme will climax on Day Three with the Soundcity OnTour concert, featuring Nigerian artistes including Falz, Magnito, Firstklaz, Hypeman Best and DJ Dewik.
For Rite Foods Limited, makers of BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, the tour provides an opportunity to connect with young Nigerians through music, creativity and campus culture while supporting emerging talents.
Soundcity OnTour will continue to other university campuses after its Zaria stop before concluding in Abuja in October.
With the ABU activation, organisers say the next major music discovery could come from the university stage, where a student artiste can turn a campus performance into a pathway to national recognition.
