The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a leadership seminar for senior officers as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, teamwork and service delivery.
The seminar, held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the PTML Command Conference Hall, focused on enhancing leadership capacity and equipping senior officers with the skills required to effectively deliver on the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The initiative was organised in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, FNIPR, PSC+, to build a more efficient, motivated and service-oriented workforce.
Declaring the seminar open, the Acting Area Controller of PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko, emphasised the importance of effective leadership in achieving the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.
Miko said the Command remained committed to initiatives that promote the welfare, health and productivity of officers, including the recently commenced Work-Life Balance Initiative.
Participants at the seminar were taken through sessions on strategic leadership, effective communication, decision-making, conflict management and ethical conduct.
The Acting Area Controller delivered the first session, titled “Leadership and Followership: Building a Culture of Collaboration and Excellence.”
Miko commended participants for their active engagement and urged them to apply the knowledge and lessons gained from the seminar towards improving service delivery within the Command.
He also reassured stakeholders and members of the trading community of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and ease of doing business.
Participants were drawn from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Customs to Deputy Comptroller of Customs.
A major highlight of the seminar was the presentation of Certificates of Excellence to two deserving officers in recognition of their diligence and outstanding service.
The recipients were Assistant Comptroller J.O. Ezekuse, Officer-in-Charge, Mile 2 Gate, and Chief Superintendent of Customs C.A. Ibrahim, Officer-in-Charge, Legal Unit of the Command.
The Acting Area Controller urged officers to continue giving their best in service to the country, stressing that the Command has mechanisms in place to identify and reward diligence, selflessness and efficient service delivery.
The seminar underscores the PTML Area Command’s continued commitment to strengthening its human capital and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and effective leadership.
