The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says its chances of winning the 2027 presidential election have significantly improved following the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
A chieftain of the party, Ladan Salihu, made the assertion during an interview on *Arise Television* on Friday, describing Obi’s move as a political game-changer.
Recall that Obi, along with other prominent South-East leaders, officially joined the ADC during a declaration event held in Enugu on Wednesday.
“The declaration of Mr. Peter Obi joining the ADC is a political blockbuster — one step toward the Presidential Villa,” Salihu said.
He added, “This is a defining moment in our political history. We are working to strengthen the party and position it as a formidable opposition force in Nigeria.”
Salihu further claimed that with the recent defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the ADC, the party now commands significant electoral weight.
The two of them, in the 2023 presidential election, polled about 63% of the total votes. If you apply that calculus now, Peter Obi’s entry puts us in pole position — one leg already in the presidential villa,” he said.
