The Oyo State Police Command has responded to a viral video circulating online in which a man allegedly claimed responsibility for multiple killings.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed receipt of the video and stated that an investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being made to verify the claims and identify the individuals involved.
The individual in the video, identified as Shawama, was seen in the company of others claiming to have killed 32 people. However, the police emphasized that there is no record of such a person having been arrested by its operatives.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that there is no record of such an individual having been arrested by our operatives at any point,” the statement said.
Investigations have been launched to verify the claims and determine the authenticity of the video. The police said the probe is being conducted using advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a thorough and credible outcome.
The Command also appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect and his accomplices. “The Command appeals to anyone with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the individual to come forward,” the statement added.
Residents have been assured that updates on the investigation will be provided as progress is made.
