Tension as voters reportedly flee polling unit amid alleged invasion by suspected thugs
Voting was reportedly disrupted at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on Saturday following an alleged invasion by suspected thugs.
The incident reportedly caused some voters to leave the polling unit as voting was underway in the Osun State governorship election.
Some party agents alleged that the suspected thugs were affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the APC agent at the polling unit, Abogunloko Olufunke, denied the allegation.
“Those thugs are not our members. I don’t know them,” she said.
The incident occurred as voters across the state turned out to elect the next governor, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election under the Accord Party against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and other contenders.
Meanwhile, residents in Otan-Ayegbaju, Boluwaduro Local Government Area, reportedly accused a Divisional Police Officer of leading suspected thugs in an attempt to remove election materials from the area.
Residents reportedly resisted the alleged move and prevented the materials from being taken away.
