The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his withdrawal from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing him as a “political nomad.”
Obi had, in December 2025, announced his alignment with the coalition-backed ADC and formally joined the party on March 7, 2026, receiving his membership card at Agulu Ward 2 in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
However, recent reports suggested that Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were planning to exit the party. Obi later confirmed his resignation, citing “endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division” within the ADC.
He also alleged that forces within Nigeria’s political system were replicating the same internal crises that, according to him, previously destabilised the Labour Party.
Reacting in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Onanuga dismissed Obi’s explanation, branding him a “political nomad” and a “politician made of jelly.”
He claimed Obi’s exit was driven by an inability to compete for the ADC presidential ticket against former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
“The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob,” Onanuga wrote.
“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC.”
The presidential aide further accused Obi of avoiding tough political contests, warning that such an approach could affect his chances in future elections.
“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter, to the 2027 race,” Onanuga added.
