The Ogun State Police Command has arrested and arraigned nine individuals for traffic violations and obstruction of public highways as part of its ongoing “Operation No Traffic Gridlock” in Sango-Ota.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Sango-Ota Division, was in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni. It is aimed at addressing persistent traffic congestion and enforcing road discipline within the busy commercial corridor.
According to the Command, officers were strategically deployed to identified flashpoints known for chronic gridlock and traffic indiscipline. During the coordinated enforcement exercise, several vehicles and tricycles were intercepted for violating traffic regulations, while those found obstructing the free flow of traffic were impounded in line with the Command’s zero-tolerance policy.
The suspects arrested include Rufus Kunle, Sanni Ogbewi, Aremu Oluwatunmise, Kayode Ariyo, Wisdom Akpan, Yinka Molaolu, Olushola Adebowale, Ikechukwu Ogah, and Nwuda Chukwuka. Police authorities confirmed that the individuals have since been formally charged to court.
The Command stated that monitoring and enforcement efforts would continue across the Sango-Ota axis to identify and apprehend other offenders undermining public safety and order.
Commending the professionalism and commitment of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s resolve to tackle traffic violations and road obstruction decisively. He warned that any individual, regardless of status, found deliberately causing traffic gridlock or disobeying lawful directives of traffic officers would face the full weight of the law.
The police also urged members of the public to cooperate with authorities by obeying traffic rules and remaining vigilant. Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command’s emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free number and other designated contact lines.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and safeguarding lives and property across Ogun State.
