The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following a forensic and intelligence-led investigation that also led to the recovery of the deceased’s stolen vehicle.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
According to the police commissioner, the incident was reported at the Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026, after suspicious circumstances were observed at the residence of the deceased. The front door had been partially damaged, while the security post inside the compound was locked, prompting officers to force entry into the premises.
Detectives discovered the lifeless body of the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, 38, inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.
Ojajuni said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, raising suspicion of robbery and murder.
He explained that the command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, forensic examination and technical tracking to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen vehicle.
The stolen Lexus RX 330 was recovered on June 22 through technical tracking at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Although the suspects had removed the ignition key and detached the number plates, detectives found the original registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, confirming the vehicle belonged to the deceased.
The commissioner said investigators also recovered a handwritten note believed to have been left behind by the killers. A forensic analysis of the note provided vital leads that assisted detectives in identifying the suspects.
The principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
During interrogation, Philip allegedly confessed to planning and participating in the murder. According to the police, he admitted recruiting the two other suspects and said the attack was carried out to “teach her a lesson” over grievances he had developed while previously working as the deceased’s security guard.
Investigators said the suspects struck on June 20, first overpowering Pelumi Adetayo and forcing him to grant them access into the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku. They later killed the security guard before fleeing with the deceased’s vehicle.
Further searches based on the suspects’ confessional statements led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, a black pen and other items believed to be connected to the crime.
Ojajuni stressed that although the suspects had made confessional statements and substantial evidence had been recovered, investigations were still ongoing to consolidate the case and ensure diligent prosecution.
He assured residents that the Ogun State Police Command remained committed to ensuring justice for the victims and bringing everyone connected with the crime to justice in accordance with the law.
