Two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet pilots demonstrated extraordinary courage and professionalism on 6 December 2025 when they safely ejected from their aircraft after it developed a critical in-flight emergency during a post-inspection test flight at NAF Base Kainji.
Immediately after take-off, the aircraft encountered technical difficulties. Without hesitation, the pilots took swift control, skillfully steering the jet away from populated areas before initiating a successful ejection. Both pilots survived and are currently undergoing routine medical evaluation.
In response, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, applauded the pilots’ bravery and sound judgement, crediting their actions for preventing loss of life. He has ordered a Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the incident.
NAF personnel—including Search and Rescue teams, Fire and Crash Response units, and medical teams—acted with speed and precision to secure the scene and ensure the crew’s safety. Their coordinated response highlighted the force’s discipline, training, and unwavering dedication to duty.
This event underscores the daily risks NAF personnel face in high-intensity aviation operations. The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to safety, operational excellence, and the defence of Nigeria’s airspace.
