The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Wednesday rescued three victims trapped in a multiple-vehicle collision along the LASU–Isheri Road at Iyana School, inward Igando, and restored normal traffic flow after the incident.
According to the agency, the crash involved a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles. Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck reportedly suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the other vehicles.
LASTMA officials, who were on routine patrol in the area, swiftly activated the agency’s emergency response protocol, rescuing the trapped victims, preventing secondary accidents and managing traffic around the scene.
The agency said its officers worked with personnel from the Iba Police Division to evacuate the damaged vehicles and clear the road, ensuring the quick restoration of free vehicular movement.
Three occupants—one man and two women—sustained varying degrees of severe fractures in the crash. They were successfully rescued from the wreckage by LASTMA officials and other emergency responders before being taken to El-Shaddai Hospital for specialised medical treatment.
The vehicles involved in the accident included a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota with registration number FGC 80 XE, and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP.
LASTMA officers remained at the scene throughout the operation, directing traffic and ensuring the safety of motorists until normal traffic conditions were fully restored.
Commending the agency’s emergency personnel, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised their professionalism, courage and rapid response in handling the incident.
He also urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, to carry out regular mechanical inspections before embarking on journeys, with special attention to the condition of their braking systems.
Bakare-Oki stressed that routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components remains essential to reducing avoidable road crashes and improving road safety across Lagos State.
He further advised motorists to obey traffic regulations and promptly report road emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free emergency short code, 3367, to enable swift intervention by the agency’s emergency response teams.
