A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) pilot, Squadron Leader Ahamefule Man-Ugwueje, tragically lost his life in an air crash near Igbokoda, Ondo State, barely two weeks after tying the knot.
The officer was aboard a NAF ATR-42 maritime patrol aircraft (registration NAF 931) on a routine logistics flight from Benin City to Lagos when the plane crashed near a naval base in Ilaje Local Government Area.
According to military sources and public reports, Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje had wed his bride, Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, on September 19, 2026, in Abuja. His death came just 16 days into their marriage.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the crash as a deeply painful loss for the armed forces and the nation, confirming that a full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the disaster.
