emergency response, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) rescued a severely injured male victim following a ghastly accident involving a six-tyre truck that plunged off the Oshodi Bridge at the weekend.
The fully loaded truck, bearing registration number AKD 135 YK and laden with toner printing materials, reportedly suffered brake failure while descending from Oshodi-Oke inward Mile 2. It lost control and veered off the bridge into a terminal ditch below.
Upon arrival at the scene, LASTMA officers immediately commenced rescue operations and successfully extricated a male victim with grievous injuries. The victim was quickly transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
The truck driver was apprehended and handed over to officers at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, for further investigation into the brake failure and other contributory factors.
To prevent secondary accidents and ensure road user safety, LASTMA operatives promptly cordoned off the area, diverted traffic, and oversaw the removal of the wreckage, restoring traffic flow within a remarkably short time.
Commending the operatives, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki, praised their gallantry, professionalism, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, particularly during the ember months, when traffic volumes and accident risks tend to increase.
Mr. Oki also highlighted the deployment of heavy-duty recovery vehicles and mini trucks across Lagos’ five administrative divisions, backed by over 2,700 personnel positioned at key traffic points to ensure efficient coverage and rapid response.
“The agency remains steadfast in its proactive traffic regulation, emergency response, and continuous public enlightenment on mechanical safety, discipline, and full compliance with traffic laws,” Oki stated.
