The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has congratulated Dr Waziri Adisa on his promotion to the rank of Professor of Criminology in the Department of Sociology, University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The promotion was approved by the Governing Council of the University of Lagos, elevating Dr Adisa to the prestigious academic rank in recognition of his contributions to criminology and security studies.
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, expressed delight over the elevation, describing it as well-deserved. He commended the UNILAG Governing Council for the appointment and noted that Professor Adisa’s wealth of experience, expertise, and exposure would further contribute to knowledge development, societal transformation, and academic excellence.
Keshinro also highlighted Professor Adisa’s contributions to the Corps, particularly his role as a lead speaker at the 6th Lagos NSCDC Public Relations Clinic, where he helped build the intellectual and professional capacity of personnel drawn from various formations and other security agencies in the state.
Among his notable engagements was a lecture titled “Cyber Security: A Panacea to Ending Economic Sabotage in Nigeria; The Role of NSCDC,” delivered during the 2025 edition of the clinic.
Before his promotion, Professor Adisa was an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, University of Lagos, with specialisation in criminology, organised crime, and security studies. He previously served as Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and was elected a member of the University Senate in 2021.
A respected scholar and public analyst, he has also served as a reviewer for several international criminology journals. His research teams have secured both local and international grants, including those from the World Bank and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), based in Senegal.
