The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several high-profile members, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu. Others expelled include Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former National Legal Adviser; Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; George Turner; and Hon. Umar Bature.
These expulsions were announced at the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a motion moved by Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman (South). George cited various activities aimed at destroying the party as the reason for the expulsion. The motion was seconded by Samaila Buga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State.
The expelled members were accused of engaging in anti-party activities, including supporting rival parties and undermining the party’s unity and progress. This decision was ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates at the convention.
Other key decisions made at the convention include:
– Elective Convention: The convention approved a motion to hold an elective convention, with Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) seconding the motion.
– Executive Committees: Governor Seyi Makinde moved a motion for the ratification and confirmation of executive committees and structures in states that complied with the party’s constitution and were monitored by INEC and security agencies, exempting Imo, Abia, Enugu, and Rivers states.
– *Dissolution of NWC*: The convention also moved a motion to dissolve the current National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and amend some sections of the party’s constitution.
