The Federal Government has distributed various livestock feed ingredients to farmers in Bayelsa State as part of efforts to improve animal nutrition, increase livestock production and strengthen food security.
The distribution was carried out at the weekend through the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, with livestock farmers and stakeholders in the state benefiting from the intervention.
The representative of the Minister of Livestock Development and Director of the Ranch and Pastoral Resources Development Department, Dr Hakeem Ibilade, presented bags of livestock feed ingredients to the Chairman of the Bayelsa Farm Slaughter Association (BFSA), Alhaji Suraji Danbaba, during the exercise.
The intervention is aimed at supporting livestock farmers with essential feed inputs and reducing some of the challenges associated with livestock production, particularly the high cost and availability of animal feed.
The ministry said initiatives of this nature are expected to contribute to improved livestock health, productivity and the availability of animal protein in the country.
The distribution also underscores the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the livestock sector and promote sustainable pastoral and ranching practices across Nigeria.
Stakeholders in Bayelsa welcomed the intervention, saying access to affordable and quality livestock feed remains critical to improving productivity and sustaining livestock businesses.
The Federal Government has continued to emphasise livestock development as an important component of its broader agricultural transformation and food security agenda.
