A former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has raised concerns over what he described as the lack of follow-up on a past investigation involving Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Dalung alleged that during his time in office, Akpabio was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under the leadership of former acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu. He claimed that the anti-graft agency at the time publicly displayed boxes of dollars purportedly linked to the case.
Dalung questioned the current status of the alleged investigation, expressing concern that the matter appears to have faded without resolution. He further alleged that during a later invitation by the EFCC, Akpabio reportedly cited ill health and did not honour the summons.
The former minister also accused the EFCC of selective prosecution, alleging that the agency focuses more on opposition figures while overlooking members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who may be implicated in corruption-related cases.
In his words: “If I see Akpabio, who was arrested by EFCC when I was a minister, Magu paraded the boxes of dollars, where has that one gone to? The last time he went to EFCC, they invited him, he said he was sick and he has been sick up to today.”
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not issued an official response to Dalung’s claims, and Akpabio has not publicly reacted to the allegations.
