The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, on Sunday hosted education journalists to a media luncheon in Abuja, reaffirming the commission’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media in advancing basic education across Nigeria.
The event brought together members of the Education Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (ECAN), led by its Chairman, Mr. Chuks Ukwatu, as well as the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, and female education correspondents.
The gathering provided an opportunity for the UBEC leadership to engage journalists on issues affecting the basic education sector while acknowledging the critical role of the media in promoting transparency, accountability, and public awareness of government education programmes.
Dr. Garba expressed appreciation to education correspondents for their continued coverage of the sector, stressing that constructive media engagement remains vital to achieving the objectives of quality and inclusive basic education in Nigeria.
The luncheon also underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between UBEC and the media to ensure Nigerians are adequately informed about ongoing reforms, interventions, and achievements in the country’s basic education system.
