A rescued National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, David Ayodele, has recounted the terrifying experience he and other corps members allegedly endured after being abducted and taken into a forest in Kogi State.
According to a report by PUNCH published on Monday, August 31, 2026, Ayodele said the victims were intercepted while travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after being relocated from an NYSC orientation camp.
He said the suspected kidnappers forced them out of their vehicle and led them into a bushy area, where they were warned that they could remain in captivity for an extended period.
Ayodele said the situation became particularly frightening when the abductors allegedly told them they would spend one month in the forest and would eventually be killed.
According to him, the kidnappers also warned the victims not to move around without permission.
Recounting the incident, Ayodele said the abductors asked the captives who wanted water after taking them into the bush.
“We reached one kind of bushy area; they asked us to sit down, they asked us who would drink water, that we would be here for one month, so they would kill all of us,” he said.
The rescued corps member’s account highlights the fear and uncertainty faced by the victims during their captivity as security agencies continue efforts to tackle kidnapping and other forms of insecurity along major routes in the country.
