The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warmly welcomed the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, following his return from Brussels, Belgium, where his tenure as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council was renewed for another year.
CGC Adeniyi arrived at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, June 29, 2026, and was received by senior officers and personnel of the Service after attending the 147th and 148th Sessions of the WCO Council.
The renewal of his chairmanship followed what was described as an outstanding performance and recognition of his exemplary leadership and commitment to strengthening global customs administration.
During the reception, members of the NCS management team also congratulated the Customs boss on the six-month extension of his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They presented him with a souvenir in appreciation of his leadership, dedication, and contributions to the ongoing transformation of the Service.
Responding, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the management team for their unwavering support, describing the gesture as a reflection of the unity and shared commitment within the Nigeria Customs Service.
He revealed that he had travelled to Brussels expecting to hand over the chairmanship of the WCO Council, but was instead re-elected by members of the Council for another one-year term.
“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi said.
The renewed international mandate, coupled with the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General of Customs, is expected to strengthen the Service’s ongoing reforms, deepen international partnerships, and enhance Nigeria’s trade facilitation and customs modernisation efforts.
