The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a string of operational successes across Ago-Iwoye, Mowe, and Warewa Divisions, with three arrests linked to cultism, armed robbery, and stolen property. The operations also disrupted a planned cult initiation, prevented mob action against a suspect, and led to the recovery of a stolen motorcycle and parts of a ₦650,000 10KVA generator.
The Command said the results reflect its proactive, intelligence-led policing and commitment to denying criminals space in the state.
Cult leader arrested, initiation plot foiled in Mowe
Operatives of Mowe Division arrested a 26-year-old man identified as a notorious leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating in the Mowe axis. Acting on credible intelligence, police uncovered plans by the group to carry out an initiation exercise to recruit new members.
Through surveillance and tactical deployment, operatives arrested the suspect and stopped the initiation before it took place. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to his leadership role and involvement in cult activities. He has been transferred for further investigation and prosecution.
Armed robbery foiled in Ago-Iwoye, suspect arrested
Ago-Iwoye Division responded swiftly to an attack on a commercial motorcyclist along the Ita-Merin axis on 16 June 2026. The victim was reportedly struck on the head and body with a hammer by two passengers he was conveying, before they took his motorcycle.
Residents pursued and apprehended one suspect after a distress alert. Police arrived quickly, restored order, and prevented mob action, averting further breakdown of law and order. The stolen motorcycle and the hammer used in the attack were recovered.
Preliminary investigation shows the suspects target commercial riders on isolated routes using hammers to overpower victims. The arrested suspect is also linked to similar incidents in the area, suggesting he plays a key role in a wider criminal network. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the group.
Generator parts recovered in Warewa
Warewa Division arrested a suspect involved in diverting and illegally selling a 10KVA generator worth ₦650,000. The complainant said the generator, rented out for business use, was sold for just ₦15,000.
Acting on intelligence, detectives traced the equipment to Kara-Isheri, where the suspect was caught dismantling it. Some parts were recovered as exhibits. Initial findings suggest the suspect may be linked to a pattern of fraud involving rented equipment. Police are working to arrest other suspects and recover more items.
CP Ojajuni reaffirms crackdown
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift response. He restated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements. “Ogun State remains unsafe for criminals,” he said.
The Command urged residents to support police operations by sharing timely, credible information.
